BASIC VEDIC ASTROLOGY

Nature of Planets
Analysis of a horoscopic chartrequires a thorough understanding of the nature of planets. It is on the basis of a proper knowledge of the nature of planets that good and bad results can be predicted with any accuracy. Before venturing into predictive aspect of astrology, it is imperative on the part of a practitioner of astrology to spend some time mastering the principles that govern the benevolence and malevolence of planets.

Planets may be benefic or malefic by nature. Or they become benefic or malefic depending uopn the nature of the rising sign in a horoscope. Benefic and malefic planets produce their results when their appropriate dashas operate. Dashas thus help us in the timing of events.

The nature of various planets is determined on the basis of standard astrological principles mentioned by the classical writers.

The following account is primarily a reproduction of the same principles.
Malefics and Benefics by nature
Planets may be malefic or benefic depending upon their inherent nature. Thus, Jupiter, Venus, waxing Moon and well-associated Mercury are natural benefics. Similarly, the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, waning Moon and afflicted Mercury are natural malefics. The Moon though a mild and benevolent planet, behaves as a malefic when too close to the Sun. Mercury gets influenced too easily; it thus behaves as a benefic under benefic influence and as a malefic under malefic influence. Rahu and Ketu too can behave as benefics especially when placed in the signs of Jupiter and Mercury.
Benefics and Malefics for different Lagnas
Parashara's Principles
Planets behave as benefics and malefics depending on the houses they own. The ownership would naturally vary from one lagna to the other. In other words, for a give lagna, certain planets will behave as a benefics while others will behave as malefics or neutrals. This will be independant of their inherent nature. Planets thus are subservient to the lagna. On the basis of the principles discussed hereunder, a natural benefic may assume the role of a malefic while a natural malefic may assume a benefic role.
Principles - Part I(a) Natural benefics as lords of quadrants (houses 1,4, 7 and 10) shed their beneficence.

(b) Natural malefics as lords of quadrants shed their malefics nature.

Note :
(1) Natural benefics are the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus; natural malefics are the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

(2) Lordship of quadrants has a neutralising influence on the nature of planets. The natural benefics thus lose the capacity to give benefic results, while the natural malefics lose their capacity to do harm.

(3)Only the ownership of quadrants does not convert benefics into malefics, and vice versa.

(c) Lords of trines (houses 1, 5 and 9) give benefic results no matter whether by their inherent nature they are benefics or malefics.

Note : Lord of the lagna is both the lord of a quadrant and a trine. it is thus supposed to give benefic results irrespective of it's inherent nature.

(d) Lords of the third, the sixth and the eleventh houses are always malefic.
(e) Lords of the second, the eighth and the twelfth houses behave as neutrals. They give results according to their location as well as association.

Note : Lords of the 2nd, 8th and 12th houses are impressionable neutrals.
Principles - Part II
The twelve houses in a horoscope have been divided into four groups above : (a) the quadrants; (b) the trines; (c) the 3, 6, 11 group; and (d) the 2, 8,12 group. In each group the relative strength of the various house lords is described thus

(a) Of the lords of the quadrants, the 4th lord is more powerful than the lagna lord; the 7th lord is more powerful than the 4th lord; and the 10th lord is more powerful than the 7th lord.

(b) Of the trine lords, the 5th lord is more powerful than the lagna lord, while the 9th lord is more powerful than the 5th lord.

(c) Of the 3, 6, 11 group, the sixth lord is more powerful than the 3rd lord while the 11th lord is more so than the 6th lord.

(d) Of the 2, 8, 12 group, the 12th lord is more powerful than the 2nd, while the 8th lord is more so than the 12th.
Principles - Part III
The lord of the 8th house, though considered a neutral, has a special propensity to do evil. The eighth house represents obstructions, obstacles, failures, intrigues, ailments, death and the like. The following points must be remembered while considering the 8th house.

(a) Eighth house is the 12th from 9th (indicating loss of Bhagya); hence its lord ie ever malefic.

Note :

(i) 12th house from lagna indicates loss. 12th house from any house indicates loss of that house. Since the 9th house stands for Bhagya (luck), virtues, pious deeds, religious inclinations, father, etc., the 12th from it (i.e., the 8th) indicates the loss of all these. Loss of fortune or luck is considered the biggest loss.

(ii) When the 8th lord is also lagna lord, the benefic nature of the lagna lordship prevails, and the 8th lord tends to behave as a benefic unless it is particularly afflicted or ill placed.

(b) The 8th lord is still more malefic when it also lords over the 3rd or the 11th house.

Note :

(i) For Pisces ascendant, Venus is the lord of the third and the 8th houses and is bad.

(ii) For Virgo ascendant, Mars is the lord of the third and the eighth houses and, therefore, adverse.

(iii) For Taurus ascendant, Jupiter is the lord of the 8th and the 11th houses, and is adverse.

(iv) For Scorpio ascendant, Mercury as the lord of the 8th and the 11th houses is bad

(c) The eighth lord becomes a benefic when it also owns a trine.

Note :

(i) Jupiter and Mercury for Leo and Aquarius ascendants respectively own the 5th and 8th houses, and behave as benefics.

(ii) For Gemini ascendant, Saturn as the lord of the 8th house as well as the 9th house (a trine) does not become an outright benefic, and, according to the Bhavartha Ratnakara, gives mixed results only.

(d) The evil effects of the 8th house lordship do not apply to the Sun or the Moon.

Note : The Moon is the 8th lord for Sagttarius ascendant, and the Sun for Capricorn ascendant. According to the sage Parashara, the Sun and the Moon remain un-afflicted by the 8th house lordship. This, however, may not hold true in actual practice, at least in medical astrology.
Principles - Part IV
(a) When a planet owns both a quadrant and a trine, it becomes particularly useful and is called a Raja-yoga-karaka (doer of great benefit). It gives additional benefit if it is also located in a quadrant or a trine.

Note :

(i) Mars for Cancer and Leo ascendants, Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants, and Saturn for Taurus and Libra ascendants, become Yoga-karakas because of the ownership of a trine and a quadrant.

(ii) Some people doubt the efficacy of Saturn as a benefic for Taurus ascendant despite its ownership of the 9th and the 10th houses (a trine and a quadrant respectively). This is because the 9th lord is considered a Badhaka (an obstructing agent) for a fixed lagna like Taurus. This , however, is not the view of Parashara which is more authentic.

(b) Only the ownership of a quadrant does not convert a malefic into a benefic. The malefic must also own a trine to completely shed its malevolence.

Note : Saturn, as the lord of the 10th and the 11th houses for Aries ascendant, as lord of the 3rd and the 4th houses for Scorpio ascendant, and as the lord of the 6th and the 7th houses for Leo ascendant, remains a malefic despite owning a quadrant in each case.

(c) The blemish of kendra lordship (ownership of quadrants), as applicable to benefics, increases progressively from the Moon, to Mercury, to Jupiter, to Venus.

(d) Full Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus, in this order, are progressively more powerful as benefics.

(e) Waning Moon, the Sun, Saturn and Mars, in this order, are progressively more powerful as malefics.
Principles - Part V (Raja Yogas)
When the lord of a quadrant is in some way related to the lord of a trine, a Raja Yoga (or a highly benefic combination) is formed. Benefic combinations in a horoscope neutralise affliction and are good for remaining free from disease. Relationship between any two house lords can be in one of the following ways :

(a) By location in the same house (conjunction).

(b) By mutual aspect.

(c) By an exchange of houses (Parivartana Yoga).

(d) When one of them is placed in the other's house and this latter aspects the former.

Note : When the lords of quadrants and trines are related in one of the ways indicated above, they still do not produce a Raja yoga if they also own the Papasthanas (adverse houses), i.e., houses 3, 6 and 11.
Principles - Part VI (Rahu and Ketu)

(a) Rahu and Ketu give results according to the house where they are located, and according to the planet (i.e., the lord of a house) whom they join.

(b)Rahu and Ketu become Yogakarakas (productive of Raja Yoga) in the following situations :

(i) When they are placed in a quadrant, and join a trine lord; or

(ii) When they are placed in a trine, and join a quadrant lord.

(c) Rahu also behaves as Saturn and Ketu also as Mars.
Trik Houses and their Lords
Houses 6, 8 and 12 are known as Trik houses. While these houses, their lords, as well as the planets that associate with these houses and their lords are productive of adverse results, they are particularly adverse in relation to health. The sixth house and the sixth lord, among other things, indicate disease and accidents. The eighth house and the eighth lord indicate chronic disease, incurable disease, or death. The twelfth house and its lord indicate suffering and also hospitalisation. The dasha periods of the planets associated with these houses and their lords must be carefully watched for determining illness.

Opposite in houses 3,4 and 5 are our vital energy (3), emotional state (4), and intelligence (5th). Planets high in the chart tend to dominate those low in the chart.

SATURN : LORD OF KARMA AND ITS FUNCTION IN A BIRTHCHART

Saturn: Lord of Karma and its Function in your Chart

Karma is therefore that which Man…has instituted, carried forward, endorsed, omitted to do, or has done right, through the ages until the present moment. Today the harvest is ripe and mankind is reaping what it has sown, preparatory to a fresh ploughing in the springtime of the New Age, with a fresh sowing of the seed which will (let us hope and pray) produce a better harvest. — Alice Bailey, Esoteric Psychology
Sir Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion states: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. This statement can also be said to represent the Law of Karma. Symbolically speaking, we can say that the manifested universe is ruled by Libra: what you sow, you shall reap. This is as true from our moment to moment reality as it is from lifetime to lifetime. Karma is not limited to the affairs of the Twelfth House as many astrological writers and thinkers would have us believe. The entire natal horoscope is a synthesis of our karma, a portrait of what we have amassed energetically across the eons of our many incarnations.
In Soul-centered astrology, we view Saturn as the agent and administrator of Karmic Law. It is Saturn who stands at the Gates of Initiation, ready to put all who aspire to a higher state of consciousness to the test. In Christian theology, this function is represented by St. Peter for it is He who acts as the Guardian to the Doors of Heaven. As one approaches Paradise, one’s deeds are weighed on the Scales of Divine Justice. It is no wonder then, that Saturn is said to be in its position of exaltation when it is placed in the sign of Libra!
Saturn is the farthest planet visible from the Earth with the naked eye and its rings are certainly its most outstanding feature. The rings are symbolic of limitations and represent the parameters of the Law of Karma. It is impossible to enter the more advanced levels of consciousness represented by Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, without first passing through Saturn’s rings. Thus, a person cannot enter into the realms of the “higher heavens” without first having fulfilled the responsibilities of one’s personal karma. It is only when we have been able to live correctly in the more personal spheres of life that we earn the right (and are capable!) of moving into more collective and transpersonal spheres of activity.
There is another important term in the esoteric doctrine which characterizes the karmic nature and function of Saturn. This term is “The Dweller on the Threshold”. The “Dweller” represents those parts of our personality which have not been redeemed or transformed by the loving agencies of the Soul. This is a place of karmic debt and of crystallized energy that does not permit us to go beyond the “Threshold” of our limited consciousness. The position of Saturn is also one of opportunity. It is by understanding and working with Saturn that we may come to balance a great deal of past karma and may go forward consciously to a more refined way of self-expression. As we progress through life, we often find that it is through restrictions and the pain which comes from thwarted desires or aspirations, that we develop a greater understanding of the Laws of Life. The structure and administration of these Laws is also under the rulership of Saturn. The sign and house position of Saturn in your natal chart will reveal much about the nature of your personal “Dweller” and show the areas where successful work has been achieved (positive aspects to and from Saturn) or where work still has to be done (hard aspects or conjunctions with Saturn).
Saturn and the Earth have a very close relationship as they are both planets associated with the nature of the Third Ray of Active Intelligence. Mercury has a great deal to do with the movement of the mind and the communication of our thoughts, but it is Saturn which is the planet that governs the patterns and structures of those thoughts. Saturn is the crystallization of mental energy so that the action of the Active Intelligence of Divinity many manifest in the physical world on Earth. It is on our planet that the karma of our solar system consolidatesinto physical form. So does the opportunity for the purification of that karma and the eventual upliftment of both humanity and the planet upon which we live. As the Tibetan Master might say at this point, “Ponder on this”.
The position of Saturn in the signs is indicative of several major factors:
  • The Ray of the sign will point to what qualities a person may be inhibiting or surpressing on the personality level. A well aspected Saturn however, will reveal that those same characteristics have been very well integrated into the personality nature. Saturn well positioned in Gemini (Ray II) for example, may indicate that the Second Ray principles of Love/Wisdom can be used very successfully to communicate thoughts that bring people into a greater sense of mutual understanding.
  • The tests of Saturn (consolidation of karma) will be shown in the form of Saturn’s sign: financially (Taurus), emotionally (Cancer), mentally (Gemini), etc. in terms of the personality.
  • On the Soul level, Saturn’s sign shows what the Soul is seeking to perfect in the present incarnation in order to stimulate the growth of consciousness (Love).
Saturn in Aries : Mercury, as the esoteric ruler of Aries, blends its energies with those of Saturn allowing the Third Ray of Active Intelligence to work well with Mercury’s urge to communicate. The Soul-centered purpose for this position is involved with the need to discipline and structure the mind for the birthing of new ideas. Problems can arise if there is a lack of responsibility in the proper use of mental energy. Another factor that may inhibit soul growth is the habit of dominating other people with one’s thoughts for the purpose of personal gain. When the right use of will is coupled with the right use of mind, this can be an excellent position.
Saturn in the First House: A very strong need to express the responsibility of one’s Soul Purpose. This is an incarnation in which a sense of personal limitation can be transformed into a sense of self-discipline so that the nature and structure of the personality may conform to the will of the Soul.
Saturn in Taurus: This position can be most helpful in structuring those ideas that bring (or inhibit) material prosperity into one’s life. If one is polarized in the desire nature of the personality, such a manifestation of resources will block the wealth of the Soul from exteriorizing in one’s life. The Soul-centered purpose has a great deal to do with harnessing material possessions and the treasures of the Earth for the service of the Soul and the benefit of humanity. Saturn in Vulcan’s sign (esoteric ruler of Taurus), will break up and destroy anything in the formative world that prevents the Higher Self from externalizing.
Saturn in the Second House: The test here is one of personal values. What do we value in ourself, in others, and in the world in general? How to we go about expressing these values? Do these values inhibit Soul awareness or give us the right sense of responsibility to live in our truth?
Saturn in Gemini: Venus is the esoteric ruler of The Twins and her energy blends with Saturn in this placement. The Soul-centered purpose is for the individual to become an agent for the Law of Right Human Relationships. There is a need to understand mutual responsibilities in relationship and to use the mind as a loving tool of communication. The achievement of harmonious relationships is very much the goal. In this respect, an individual with Saturn in Gemini (especially if afflicted to Venus in the natal chart) may experience a certain sense of restriction in his or her ability to communicate. The dualities and crises in one’s relationships are but the training ground for the wider communicative aspirations of the Soul.
Saturn in the Third House: This can be an excellent position for the right use of the mind for the purpose of the Higher Self and also bestows a tendency towards being self-disciplined towards the goals of intellectual development. If afflicted, it reveals a narrow perspective and the urge to limit and control all forms of communication.
Saturn in Cancer: This placement often reveals that the surrounding family or fundamental psychological circumstances of the personality life limit the expression of the Soul. What is required is the ability to detach from the emotional/astral dynamics of the earlier life and build a strong, conscious connection to the higher mind. Saturn is a planet of the Third Ray and Cancer is a Third Ray sign. Emotional restriction on the personality level has to be transformed into greater compassion and worldly understanding. The message here is: Give up the personal pain and grow mentally. Such growth will provide the detachment required for higher consciousness.
Saturn in the Fourth House: Take charge of yourself! The path towards a greater sense of personal fulfillment is totally connected to the construction of a strong inner foundation of mature responsibility. When well aspected and/or in a favorable sign, Saturn in the Fourth shows that such efforts have already been achieved and that the individual may now build upon such a solid foundation.
Saturn in Leo: As Leo is a First (Will/Power) and Fifth (Concrete Mind) Ray sign, and Saturn is the planetary ruler of the Third Ray (Intelligence), the lesson of this position is very clear.. “Creativity” is always the keyword in any planetary combination involving the Lion. The creative dynamics of the Soul will be inhibited in their release as long as conscious attachment to the needs of the personality predominate. People with Saturn in Leo often tend to use personal power to control the environment. From a Soul-centered perspective this tendency has to be transformed in such a way that personal creative power is directed towards service to the collective.
Saturn in the Fifth House: Discrimination is called for in order that the individual express only those creative activities which actualize and express the Higher Self. Limitations in one’s creative self-expression will dominate the life until the person finds the correct pathway for his or her talents and abilities.
Saturn in Virgo: Virgo is strongly connected to the Mother and is thus involved with birthing those forms which give rise to the opportunity to express the love of the Soul. Saturn in this position requires that the individual learn the necessary discrimination so that one’s mental efforts are not wasted on superfluous activities. When well aspected, Saturn in Virgo can reveal that an individual has already achieved the intuitive ability to know what “works” and what does not, thus saving time and energy for more important things. This focus of practicality comes from knowing what will create a more integrated sense of wholeness in a given life situation. Such inclusivity is a characteristic of Virgo’s connection to the Second Ray of Love/Wisdom.
Saturn in the Sixth House: The mastery of the right processes, techniques, methodologies, and tools for true service to others are characteristic of Saturn when well placed in this house. When afflicted, there is dis-ease, a lack of cohesion, and limitations caused by misplaced talents and abilities.
Saturn in Libra: We find Saturn in its exaltation when positioned in this sign. A Soul-centered individual with Saturn in Libra will function to administer a balanced judgment in the right use of energy, an impartiality expressed in all forms of human interchange. This planetary combination involves all of the Rays of Mind. The Third (Saturn and Libra), the Fifth (Venus as exoteric ruler of the Scales), the First (through Saturn’s rulership of Capricorn), and the Seventh (through Uranus, esoteric ruler of Libra). Thus we have a person with the potential to relate to others in ways that are proper and fair no matter what the circumstances may be.
Saturn in the Seventh House: This usually indicates the need to take on responsibility in relationships, the nature of which in a Soul-centered chart is to point to the path of orientation necessary for spiritual growth. Limitations and blockages in relationships on the personality level are likely until one learns to go beyond the urge to control others for purely personal reasons.
Saturn in Scorpio: Not the easiest position as it combines the energies of Ray Three (Saturn) with those of Ray Six (Mars, as ruler of Scorpio). There may thus be a very strong battle between the emotional and mental aspects within oneself. On the personality level, this often leads to some very distinct challenges in dealing with one’s sexual expression. It is through the Fourth Ray of Scorpio that harmony will have to be established out of this conflict. If achieved, Saturn in Scorpio gives the ability to release hidden strengths and resources. This position works to break down the compulsive nature of negative emotional habit patterns. In this way more refined mental structures may be built for the externalization of the Higher Self.
Saturn in the Eighth House: The desire nature of the personality has to be transformed. This position gives this opportunity but not often through the easiest tests or lessons. In effect certain sexual/emotional blockages arise that cause a person to recognize his or her patterns of Self-denial. This Self, the Soul, will manifest more directly once such frustrating inhibitions are transmuted.
Saturn in Sagittarius: Saturn and the Earth (esoteric ruler of Sagittarius) combine to bring a certain mental pragmatism to this combination. The Archer-Centaur gives direction and purpose to walking the Path. When Soul-centered, Saturn in Sagittarius provides the ability for an individual to take the inherent wisdom contained in all the world’s creeds and philosophies, and synthesize this information into a teaching that transcends all religious differences. On the personality level, this position may restrict a person from widening his perspective through a rigid adherence to one’s personal beliefs.
Saturn in the Ninth House: The potential to stabilize the higher mind in order to anchor a firm foothold on the spiritual Path. Saturn in this house may also block any further mental progress until one learns not to control or dominate others through a particular philosophy or orthodox teaching.
Saturn in Capricorn: When accompanied by love and wisdom, this potent position may serve to create those structures that lead the individual (and others) up the Mountain of Initiation. The Third Ray is at its most powerful here, endowing the Soul-centered individual with astute mental abilities and an especial talent for handling the economic considerations of life. On the personality level, there is the tendency to make up one’s own rules and regulations no matter what the reality of universal Law may be. An incarnation with abundant opportunities to put the Will-to-Good into material form and concrete actions.
Saturn in the Tenth House: The culmination of a very special purpose in life, giving the need to achieve. But on which level? The personality will seek to rule and govern based on personal opinions and emotional needs. The Soul will seek to administer the Law expressed through Love.
Saturn in Aquarius: A most benevolent position for Saturn from the level of the Soul. Jupiter (esoteric ruler of the Water Bearer) adds the energies of the Second Ray of Love Wisdom to this Venus-ruled Fifth Ray (Science and Technology) sign. This combination may contribute to a person hard at work creating those social institutions and networks that anchor group consciousness. A position which has the inherent ability to blend worthy ideas from the past with the unfolding concepts for the future. On the personality level, personal ideologies and concepts inhibit an individual from a more positive contribution to society.
Saturn in the Eleventh House: The orientation to take on social responsibilities for the sake of the group. It also gives the experience of consolidating spiritual visions and aspirations for the benefit of many people. If afflicted on the personality level, blocks occur to one’s social progress leading to frustration.
Saturn in Pisces: Pluto (esoteric ruler of Pisces) joins with Saturn on the Soul level to create a most powerful force that works to pierce the veils of glamour and illusion. Thus the individual with this planetary combination may be able to uncover the subconscious dynamics which give rise to our fears and their resulting miseries. On a more practical level, this can lead to wonderful discoveries in the laboratory which are used to heal illnesses and other human ills. When afflicted on the personality level, Saturn in Pisces gives the tendency to create artificial walls and barriers, thus fencing in one’s fears and adding to inner tensions.
Saturn in the Twelfth House: In terms of the personality, this position often results in fear of the direct use of personal will power. This leads one into conflict with people in authority and may gives rise to a manipulative nature. The Soul-centered meaning may indicate the need to take on the responsibility for redeeming some of the collective karma of humanity and the willpower to be able to accomplish this task.

MAHADASHA or Planetary Lordship

Mahadasha

Dasha system is very important part of Indian astrology. All events are timed by the planetary periods called Dashas. The transits called as Gochara. The Dasha System divides individuals life into periods, sub-periods and minor periods.
It is believed by the seers of Hindu astrology that Moon exercises the greatest influence in one’s life. Moon is the starting point of the life. Hence, the dasha system was developed on the basis of Moon. The position of Moon at the time of birth is very important.
There are various Dasha system in hindu astrology out of which there are two main varieties of dasha which are ‘Ashtottari Dasha’ and ‘Vishmotari Dasha’. The position of Moon at the time of birth is the base of preparing Dasha chart.
The start of Vishmottari Dashas depends on the Nakshatra in which Moon is placed in the birth chart.
The Mahadasa of different planets on the basis of the Nakshatra in which the native is born are:
  • If born in the Sun Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be of 6 years.
  • If born in the Moon Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be of 10 years.
  • If born in the Mars Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 7 years.
  • If born in the Rahu Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 18 years.
  • If born in the Jupiter Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 16 years.
  • If born in the Saturn Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 19 years.
  • If born in the Mercury Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 17 years.
  • If born in the Ketu Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 7 years.
  • If born in the Venus Nakshatra: Mahadasha will be 20 years.
The total of the different periods will be of 120 years is considered as the natural human life period. The position of the Moon decides the ruling planet and the degree of the Moon determines the period assigned to 1st Mahadasha. Debilitated / Exalted and Retrograde Planet in Astrology

When  there is a  debilitated and retrograde planet it gives you ability to reverse debilitation.

Many times people ask a question about that planet debilitated at the same time it is retrograde.

Generally in text is called Neecha Bhanga yoga (cancellation of debilitation) but nothing is cancelled everything is added. So whenever a planet is debilitated and retro at the same times it just simply means the person reflecting on the debilitation of the planet. Therefore the planet debilitation is reduced in some way.

To understands this let’s take an example of Mercury retrograde at the same time it is debilitated.Mercury is debilitated in Pisces. Mercury is planet of intelligence and communication, when Mercury is debilitated the person is confused in details and kind of dreamy nature and not live in reality and miscommunication with people.

But when Mercury turns retrograde it actually has the effect of reversing the problem of Mercury debilitated, so when the planet when is debilitated and retrograde what happens is it reverse the quality of the debilitated planet. First of all it can tend to make us hesitate using that meaning we are less confident in the planet when it's retrograde appends the backup in our consciousness and were less to just act impulsively with it so in this case means were less likely to miss being missed communicate and therefore use that debilitated Mercury and confusing communication first think everything is a retrograde planet will tend to bring a reversal. Pisces Mercury have tendency to kind of confused detail but when it retro it reflect on about confusion related with communication and they try to correct the confusion.

Mercury debilitated related meaning someone's misspeaking somebodies not paying attention to details they should be paying attention to all the stuff which is Mercury debilitated but when it gets reverse and a solution is found very quickly that's the retrograde debilitated planet something also know is the this idea that it overcomes it or you know makes the retrograde planet like it's exalted. But the person still have a problem of that planet Mercury still debilitated. They still have a tendency to misspeak, but when it goes retrograde first of all we like confidence with it so we don't misuse and the retrograde planet reverse some of the difficult of the debilitated planet.

When Mars debilitated in the sign of Cancer. Mars is the planet of strength, courage and fighting ability. When it comes in the sign of Cancer it loses it fighting ability, because Cancer is very soft and sensitive sign. But when Mars debilitated and retro at the same time the person try to strengthen their weakness and try to face life problem with courage.

Some people have Venus debilitated. Venus debilitated in the sign of Virgo. Venus is the planet of love, happiness and relationship. When it comes in sign of Virgo it becomes very criticizing and analytical. We all want a love which is pure and without any criticism because no one like criticism in love, therefore when Venus is debilitated there is lot chances in breaking of the relationship. But when Venus is debilitated at the same time it is retro what happen the person reflect on those things which indicated in debilitation of the planet. The person think before doing any criticism, the native will try not to do much analysis in relationship and relation may work out. A debilitated planet with retro try to reduce the impact of debilitation.

When Jupiter is debilitated, Jupiter is debilitated in the sign of Capricorn. Jupiter is the planet of hope and wisdom and it comes in the sign of Capricorn it lose it quality the person may be materialistic and hopeless in bad times, but when it debilitated at same time retrograde the person is not lose its hope in bad times and try to strengthening the personal faith.

When Saturn is debilitated. Saturn is debilitated in the sign of Aries, the person suffer in long term goals and not able to sit in one place, but when it get retro the think about its long term goal try to minimize the effect of debilitation of the planet.

So whenever a planet is debilitated and retro at the same times it is mean the native has the capacity to reverse the debilitating effect of the planet. But nothing is cancel the effect of the debilitated planet is there but the person may feel less effect of debilitation of the planet.

The same theory applies to exalted retrograde planets. If any planet is exalted and retrograde at the same time, it loose it exaltation effect, it loses its power in some way.

Exalted planets means the person mind is fully aware of the situation or surrounding. There is misconception about exalted planets they always give good result. Result of the planets is depend on the which house planets rule and in which house planets are sitting. There are some difficulties felt by the people who have exalted planets but they rule dusthana houses (6th, 8th, and 12th house). Therefore every planet act differently for each ascendant because they rule different house in the horoscope. The planets are the force of nature that allow our higher conscious to unfold through whatever they rule in the chart. The house of exaltation and debilitation show which area of life will allow for the the highest quality the planet to unfold and through house transformation will occur in life.
Let’s say person is aries ascendant and it Jupiter is exalted in 4th house, and it rule 9th and 12th house. 9th house is luck house and 12th house is loss. Jupiter is exalted for 9th house and 12th house. Jupiter exaltation means they are capable in finding their inner peace and spiritual wisdom. They have generous and helping nature. So what result can be expected in Jupiter mahadasha because it rule malefic 12th house. These people have difficulties in their life related with 12th house but because Jupiter is exalted they are manage it and strong Jupiter will try to free these native by bringing aloneness and loss into their the sphere of emotional live. Those losses force them to look into their hearts for higher spiritual wisdom in order to surrender.
Another example if Scorpio ascendant have exalted Sun, which exalted in 6th house and rule 10th house. 6th house is dusthana house in astrology. Exaltation of Sun in 6th house means the person face problem in career area, it bring enemy, competition and arguments with which will teach the person humility and limited use of power. The exalted Sun for Scorpions will act like this to make him mature. When positive lord exalted in dusthana house, it shows the problem to the person in order to understand that area of life.
Those people have exalted planets in their horoscope it doesn't mean they escape unpleasant part of life. Everyone have to face unpleasantness of life but it matter how you face it. Exalted planets simply mean the person is mature and able to manage life worse situation with dignity.
